History of the InnThe Old White Horse Inn is an extremely old hostelry, an inn of one type or another has stood on the site from the fourteenth century. The original inn was founded by Knight Templars as depicted by the corner stone lanterns on the gables, which are a symbol of ownership of the Order of Knights of St John of Jerusalem. John Wesley used to preach from the steps still visible from the front of the building. At the rear of the inn is a piece of land known as Piper's Acre where the famous piper played. It is still said that he returns in a ghostly form, as gratitude to the people of Bingley for giving him the land and saving him from the vagrancy laws. In the sixteenth century, part of the inn was used as the original magistrates court for Bingley. The oak room, which is now the pool room, displays two coats of arms of the Ferrand and Currier families. The police cells are still in the inn..not a nice place.., the gibbet used to be in the courtyard and the stocks, which were located at the front of the inn, have sadly now been moved into the centre of the town.
